Itinerary Review – Cruising: Yokohama, Beppu, Kagoshima, Hakata, Nagasaki, Miyazaki in March

Hi everyone! Thank you for clicking. This sub, especially the mega threads, has been so helpful. My husband and I decided to join a 9 day Japan cruise from March 15-24 and we are so excited. I’ve never been to Japan, and his last time was during high school. We are considering this our “taste of Japan” trip and definitely plan to come back to do a more detailed trip when we can afford the money and time off to do so.

I have done some research into each of our cruise ports and picked out some things for us to do, as well as tried to get an idea of how to get to each place from the port. I know we will have to sacrifice a lot since we essentially only have half days at each location.

**Questions:** I was hoping to get your feedback on anything really, but specifically 1) does it look do-able from the cruise port (Princess Cruise), 2) am I missing any Must Dos at each port?, 3) are there any must try foods in each port/do you have recommendations on where to get it close to the port? 4) how much do you estimate taxis will cost? (maybe a per minute ish estimate?)

Thank you so much in advance!!

**March 13** \- Depart YVR

**March 14 -** Arrive Narita 2:50PM – Pick up everything at airport, NEX & train, arrive at Hotel Edit. Convenience store dinner or local quick dinner, check out night views in the area, sleep!

**March 15 – Yokohama:** Cup Noodle Museum, Mini Petting Zoo nearby. Optional: Chinatown, outside of Gundam Factory. Ship leaves 5PM.

**March 16 – At Sea**

**March 17 – Beppu:** Shuttle to JR Beppu Station, Taxi to Takasakiyama Monkey Park, taxi (20 min) to Umi Jigoku and check it out, Hyotan Onsen. Ship leaves 4PM.

**March 18 – Kagoshima:** We will probably use our Excursion Credit here and spend $29 bucks each for the ship to take us to Sengen-En and Mount Sakurajima. I tried to map it out by taking transit and it just makes the time too tight for us to get back on the ship before it leaves at 4PM.

**March 19 – Jeju, South Korea**

**March 20 – Hakata:** Taxi in – TeamLab Forest, Shopping at Canal City, maybe Rakusuien Garden for a break. Ship leaves 6PM.

**March 21 – Nagasaki:** Tram up to Atomic Bomb Museum and garden area, Glover Garden if have energy. Ship leaves 5PM.

**March 22 – Miyazaki:** Sadly, it looked like all the potential things of interest are too far for us to go ourselves, or expensive to taxi to, OR even more expensive to take a cruise excursion to. I’m thinking to stay on the ship, but please let me know if you have advice!

**March 23 – At Sea**

**March 24 – Back to Yokohama, Fly home 6PM!** Will either try to get a late departure from the ship, or take a shuttle to Yokohama station, lock up our luggage, and explore the area until it’s time to catch our NEX.

  1. I didn’t want to overwhelm the initial post, so I’m putting this in comments instead.

Some additional info about us: We are from Vancouver, BC. We plan to eat main meals on the ship since we paid for them/they’re included and we have pretty great food in Vancouver, but would very much love to try each place’s specialty. We don’t like to walk too much (up to 20 min ish ideally), but CAN walk. We are really into natural sights and animals. I am really into water (onsens!!) and he is into history/learning. To be honest, we are not too interested in shrines but am open to them if there are any Must Sees! I frequented shrines/temples as a child (traveling with family, and also our culture) so they’ve sort of lost their novelty for the most part. We want to save money where possible, but also maximize time since the ship leaves the port at around 6 each day (average, varies by location).
