Would a SSW Japanese Visa be a good idea?

I plan to move to Japan from Canada after I finish my advanced diploma and after working a few years in Canada. I will be going into sheet metal work, heat-retention and cool-retention which is a option for the SSW visa. If I plan to permanently move to Japan would this be a good option for me? I also plan on becoming fluent in Japanese before I move.

  1. The short answer is no.

The specified skilled worker program is aimed at folks in developing southeast asian countries. Vietnam, Indonesia, Phillipines, etc. The only country where the required tests are conducted in English is the Phillipines, and they have an official policy to only allow local residents to take those tests.

Additionally, for most categories there is a 5 year max on the amount of time you’d be allowed to hold that status of residence, after which you’d have to go home. There are plans to remove that 5 year limit for more categories though.
