Suggestions for doing an intensive study of Japanese in Japan this December?

Hi! I’ve just bought tickets for an impromptu trip to spend 1 month in Tokyo this December (12/10-1/10). I want to spend it learning Japanese, eating lots of food, and kind of just be immersed in a different culture after such a long period of staying at home. I am a newbie at Japanese, but hopefully my Chinese and English will help a little bit with memorizing vocab.

My ideal vacation was to spend the morning/noon taking Japanese lessons and the afternoon wandering around Tokyo. However, after doing some research, I found out that most Japanese classes are planned for months or years at a time, and for those that are short term, they start at specific dates and the schools close in December. So now I’m not sure how to make the most of my trip. Does anyone know of Japanese classes that I can join in December, or suggestions for efficient self-learning while getting conversation practice?

Also, if anyone has cool bucket list items for Tokyo or day trips nearby, let me know 🙂 Thanks so much in advance!

  1. Honestly, given that you’ll only be there for a month, I’d try to fixate mostly on the things you find fun or interesting while you’re there, and maybe write down some key vocab related to them that you want to remember, and review them in your free time before bed and/or shortly after waking up for 10-20 minutes. Focusing much more concertedly on the language than that while you’re there will probably take away from the trip more than it’ll add, so I’d honestly recommend you don’t spend much time on it for now.
