Hi all!
I’m trying to finalize plans for Hakone and was looking for advice/help. I’ll be there for 3 days and 2 nights. I’ve been here once before and enjoyed the onsen experience, but never got the chance to explore the area.
We are looking at the 3 day Hakone free pass.
11/16 (Weds)
Depart from Tokyo from Shinjuku.
Odakyu Romance car, 1h 42m ¥2451
Departs 8:11, 8:31, 9:20, 10, 11
Q: Not really sure what the difference between the Odakyu line and Odakyu Romance car is. Are they both covered? It seems like the regular Odakyu line only goes to Odawara?
Q: Is it busy in Shinjuku station around 8 and 9AM? I wanted to leave during the earlier train times, but we are thinking about departing at 10 AM to avoid the work crowd to arrive at the shopping area around 12 PM.
– Hakone shopping area around Hakone Yumoto station
– Bus to tori shrine, 45 m Â¥1080
Departs 12:25, 12:55, 1:15, 1:55
If we arrive at the shopping area around 12, we’re thinking about allocating 1 or 2 hours here for food, snacks and souvenirs. Will probably leave for the 1:15 or 1:55 bus. Might visit torii gate before boarding the cruise if time allows.
– Hakone sight seeing cruise/Pirate ship
Motohakone-ko to Togendai, 25min ¥1200
Departs 1, 1:45, 2:30, 3:15, 4
Will probably arrive here around 2 or 3
Check in at onsen before 6.
Kaiseki dinner and relax for the rest of the day.
11/17 (Thurs)
Hakone day
– Open air museum?
– Gotemba Premium Outlets (opens at 10AM)
Arrival trip 57 mins, ¥1120
Bus schedule: 9:45, 10:15, 10:45, 11:45, 12:45
Return trip 50 mins, ¥1120
Bus scheduled at 1, 2, 3, 4, 4:35, 5
I’ve never been here before.
Q: Is a whole day a bit of an overkill in this area? Any other recommendations that I can check out on this day?
11/18 (Fri)
Heading to Osaka. Leaving around 9 or 10AM after kaiseki breakfast to get to Osaka around 1:30 or 2:30.
Thinking about using the free pass to go back to Odawara, then transferring to the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen.
Thanks for any advice!! Apologies in advanced! Formatting is hard on the phone!

I went there last week on the Romance car – it has reserved seats and gets their quick, I would recommend it. I don’t recall latest on the regular odakyu but he just a regular commuter train.
The open air museum was fun just a lot of crazy exhibits and Picasso too.
If you like hot springs Hakone Yuryo is one station from Yumoto.
