Do Japanese universities accept WES grade conversion?

Does someone have experiences with it?

I‘m an undergraduate student from Germany and currently have- if I strictly convert it to an American GPA- one of 2.6.
That’s according to German sources.

Japanese universities are apparently also using American GPA system. That’s why I’m asking.

It’s worth mentioning that I’m with my „bad“ GPA something around top 30 percentile. After throwing my data into the calculator of World Education Services they said it is a GPA of around 3.5. I guess they are better at taking into consideration how harsh the german grading system is?

I‘m worrying that if I send my application to the university I’d like to study at (Kyudai) they‘ll calculate it themselves without taking everything else into consideration. I heard that GPA is quite important for them so that would suck.

WES can calculate the GPA professionally for you and give you a certificate. I guess that would definitely make sense considering that there isn’t really a consensus on how to convert german grades to American grades.

Otherwise I‘ll just reach out to Kyudai and ask them about the topic.
