Today, I fully understood a song in Japanese for the first time!

Hello, everyone!

I don’t have that much people to share this with, so I wanted to share it with you\~

Today, with the help of a dictionary, I was able to fully understand, translate and sing the lyrics of a song I really like! One of my many reasons to learn Japanese was to enrich my enjoyment of J-music as well as to write my own lyrics in the language, so this makes me quite happy!

The song is entitled 本を読む, and it’s from a band called SCANDAL (One of my favorite Japanese girl rock bands)

The title and the first verses are very, very beginner friendly, so that gave me the push to try and translate/comprehend the lyrics on their entirety, and I’m so glad I did haha

Can’t wait to try and understand/translate more songs!

  1. THAT’S AMAZING! One of the reasons I haven’t looked at the lyrics in English for J-Pop songs I love is because I want to understand them myself alone as I learn Japanese!

  2. Sometimes when some japanese song plays on my playlist, and I understand a few words more than I did previously, I also get happy 😊 it shows me that I have, in fact, learned something since hearing that song before. Which is a big deal for me since I don’t really study that much… for a long while I might not do anything at all, and then I have a sudden inspiration to listen japanese podcasts or watch anime without subtitles. Maybe not the most efficient way to learn, but better a bad way you do than a good one you don’t, right?
