Galaxy Fold4 (from Canada) won’t go on 5G with Y!Mobile (Softbank) network

I have the Samsung Galaxy Fold4 from Canada. I was with Mobal before, but since I have a new phone I wanted to take advantage of the 5G speeds. A few days ago, I switched to Y!Mobile but the phone will not hop on the 5G network.

I went back to the Softbank store that sold me the SIM, we spent about an hour today going through the configs, the OS was fully updated and we tried different APN settings. They tell me that they guarantee 5G will work with Japanese phones but cannot guarantee with foreign phones. Which is a bit funny because it was the first question when I entered the store (before signing up).

I have a day left to cancel the contract before it’s fully locked in. I’m wondering if there’s anyone that has a Samsung/Android phone purchased from abroad that uses the 5G network and which carrier are you with? Please help.

  1. I’ve run into this before because I always buy phones unlocked and not from a specific carrier.

5g has different “bands” that it broadcasts on. If the phone and the provider don’t share those bands, then they aren’t compatible. I was able to find the band lists for your specific phone, [here](https://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=6780) but I was unable to find the bands for y!mobile or softbank. There’s a chance that the phone is just not compatible.
