Can I ask ヤマト and JP POST leave my packages at door ?

They usually deliver my package while I’m at work and I have to request a re-delivery again which I might still miss. Is there any Japanese phrase that I can post on my door and ask them just leave it in front of my house?
Thank you!

  1. Do you live in an apartment or a house? (Do you have space around your door?)

If so, you can get a delivery-box bag and they will happily leave it in there.

If there is a (fairly) secure place that JP-Post can leave it, you can generally submit a request for delivery to specified location to them and they will leave all future packages there.

You can also ask your regular Yamato delivery guy to leave your package at XXX, and generally they will.

If you are ordering from Amazon / Rakuten, you can also leave a note it your address instructing them where to leave the package when you aren’t there. Not everyone will, but if it is a driver that is familiar with you, generally no issues.

  2. From Yamato:

    >Can I use the service even if I do not speak Japanese?

    >We have service counters which provide services in English and Chinese. Please contact +81-3-6757-1061 in case you are calling from outside Japan, or 0120-17-9625 if you are calling within Japan (both available in English).

  3. Yes, you can say “genkan no mae ni oite onegaishimasu” or something like that. That being said, if you live in an open apartment building or something, they may refuse to leave it out in the open. I used to leave my apartment door unlocked and tell them to put it in the genkan, but I also live somewhere very rural.

  4. if JP post is delivering your Amazon stuff then:

On Amazon → account → add address → Delivery Instructions.

I signed up for the Kuroneko Yamato App using the same email as Mercari account. I get emails when a package is coming and I change it to have the item left outside my door.

Bank stuff and some important documents, you kinda just need to be at your apartment.

  5. As somebody else also pointed out and if you are talking about Amazon, you can add delivery options, one of them being your front door. I think it’s on the final or penultimate screen of order confirmation.
