Question about where to live in Tokyo

Hi all, I know this is about for those who reside in Japan, I am actually returning soon so I know most of the ins and outs of the country.

My work as a freelance game engineer has now landed me a permanent job at a Tokyo based company and when discussing locations where to stay, they offered me 3 different places where they had a house for in-house staff like myself, they come prefurnished and all have a private office for working from home, which is 90ish percent of my life.

1. Odaiba, but from what I remember, this is mostly a dating spot for young couples and not so much for living
2. Mejiro, which would be great location for the yamanote, but never been there… google maps did show me upscale stores but nothing more as a first impression
3. Shimokitazawa, would be longest commute to work on the very few days I would be asked to come in, but from my last stay, I only remember this being a “thrift store” area with very few really good (read large) houses.

The place I would be getting is over 140 square meters, so it will be big enough for me and my family, just wanted to hear some thoughts on these places, Mejiro seems to be the better place but we left japan around half a year before covid hit, so I am out of touch, I guess…

What would be your pick from the three places?

  1. Mejiro. Couldn’t beat the convenience of having Yamanote as your main train line.

  2. Shimokitazawa is nice, but very young. Like weekends near the station will have a ton of teeny boppers around, dunno if you would mind that?
