Do Japanese companies occasionally call to confirm purchases?

Just wanted to make sure this wasn’t a scam call. I’m not familiar with how Japanese scams work.

So yesterday I ordered dr. Martens shoes. Put down my Japanese number, address but used my credit card from my home country for it.

Today I got a call from dr. Martens saying they want to confirm my data. So they asked for my name which I gave. Then my number which I gave them too cause they already had it judging by the call.

At this point I was like „Scam yes? Scam no?“ so I decided to not give out credit card info if they asked me for it. They didn’t ask for it though. After the number they just wanted to know if I used my card for the purchase. I said yes and they said alright then we’ll send the product to you.

I was pretty sure it’s not some sort of scam (what do they want with just my number and name) but my roomie was really worried after I told him. Just wanted to make sure cause confirming purchases by phone is not something that happens in Germany.

Edit: my theory was that they wanted to confirm that I was actually ordering and not someone else who stole my credit card. Cause all they saw was all Japanese data and then an abroad credit card

  1. It’s probably because you use German credit card. Companies want to protect themselves too.

I think we can safely say this is the case. I mean what sort of scam would it be – the old oh no I’m going to send this person Dr. Martens scam?

Didnt call me for the second len but both times they just checking my name and ask did I really buy the X/Y product
