What’s a good tv show to watch for those wanting to learn Japanese?

It could even be a children’s show. Thanks

  1. Literally anything you enjoy. It’s impossible to answer this question without more details.

  2. The first two shows came to my mind are: 昨日的美食きのう何食べた and ひばな. Both of them are really good, ひばな in particularly, and they’re all available on Netflix.

  3. If you like anime, typically slice of life anime is the easiest to understand. I think Komi Can’t Communicate is relatively easy to understand, as is Teasing Master Takagi-san.

Komi Can’t Communicate is on Netflix with Japanese subtitles, season 1 of that anime is the very first anime I was able to watch entirely in Japanese without relying on English subtitles.

If you don’t like anime, I’ve heard people recommend Terrace House, available on Netflix.

One word of advice though, if you are literally just starting on Japanese, you need to build a foundation first, otherwise you’ll probably get very little out of native level media content.

It took me about 3 years of self-study to watch even the easiest and simplest of native content and even then I was learning ~100-200 new vocabulary words per episode.

  4. Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo. It’s a show about foreign students learning Japanese and their enthusiastic, but rather inexperienced young teacher. They often discuss different aspects of Japanese grammar or proper word usage, so it should be perfect for your purpose. 🙂

  5. I know it’s childish but search for Peppa Pig Japanese on YouTube – there’s a channel that does subtitles, along with Romanji and original Kana

It’s honestly pretty enjoyable if you’re looking for something wholesome and simple
