I’m looking to buy a high-quality merino or alpaca scarf as a gift. I searched the usual kakaku/rakuten but there’s only a small selection. I don’t usually shop fashion online, but my local department store (田舎’s best) doesn’t have anything nice.
Does anyone have suggestions for a few online shops that carry such items? Thanks.

You are looking for a winter item in mid summer. If you can wait till late September or so you will have many more options from cheap (example Uniqlo) to pricier (example Johnstons of Elign via various select shops).
It’s not the right season so you’ll have a hard time.
That said, try Zozotown for just about any clothing item. Or if you want more sort of special/handmade, try Minne.
Seems counter productive, but it’s cheaper to buy off season items (summer clothes in winter and winter clothes in summer) but it comes with the downside that you will have less to chose from and most likely items from last season. So they might not be as “in fashion” as what might be releasing in some months.
High quality brands prices won’t change much, but fast fashion should have lower prices.
I would say Zozotown is the safest bet.
Etsy has amazing stuff also.
