Visa renewal taking much longer than usual

I applied for a status renewal on September 20.
They told me it will take around a month.
Around the end of October, they requested an additional document from the company they never did before.
It‘s the 2nd time I renew (2018 1 year, 2019 3 years) with this company.
I‘ve been to Japan since 2014, and in 2019 it‘s the first time I got 3 years.

Also, despite Corona, my salary increased.

I am calling immigration once a week already (just did now), but all they keep telling me is that it‘s still in process and they have NO IDEA how long it might take.

My visa is due in December, banks and credit card companies request my updated status by the end of November.

Up until now, the longest I ever waited was 1 month, and that was before the 3 years visa in 2019.

Did anyone have a similar experience lately?

I‘m scared as hell that my visa will be declined, as there‘ve been recorded cases about that

  1. Believe it or not, they actually need an active reason to deny your visa, particularly since you already live here and are working.

I understand the anxiety, but you’re fine, 99.94% sure it’s simply things taking longer as processes had to change during Covid.

You can ignore the banks and credit cards, they may ‘want’ stuff by November but they can’t do anything until December if you didn’t actually have a visa. Your visa is valid until December.

You also should have something in your passport specifically saying that your visa application is being processed. If some minion at the bank asks for it, show them that and tell them to STFU <g>

    You’ll be fine.

  2. Once you start renewing visa application, the visa deadline extends futher 2 months. You can literally start the application from 1 day before the visa expires and you will be fine for 2 more months. So, chill!!!
