I’m half Japanese with citizenship to both countries. I’m trying to open up a bank account with the post office and they’re asking for my US social security number even though I’m a citizen here. I don’t have the my number card yet but I’ve shown them my Japanese passport, my insurance card, and my juminhyo. I was able to make my bank book and got the cash card in the mail but I got a call saying they still need more information and asked for my social security number.
Is this just a normal thing? because I have no idea.

This is pretty normal, just the cost of being American. Am kinda surprised they issued cash card without US passport.
