Do you guys prefer the physical transit cards or their mobile counterparts (e.g. mobile suica)?
I’ve tried using the mobile suica app but couldn’t for the life of me figure out how I am supposed to even register a card on it let along charge it.
Also, is it possible to register a pre-existing 定期券 on the app?

If you’re using an iPhone, you can add your card to your Wallet by following the steps [on the Apple support site.](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207155)
For Android, I found this [guide online.](https://www.japanlivingguide.net/living-in-japan/transportation/mobile-suica/)
The Android guide also tells you how to charge it a bit further down. Hope this helps!
As a personal anecdote, last time I was in Tokyo I was able to charge my Suica at a machine. I just put my phone into the little phone holder and added cash.
Once you get used to the mobile suica you won’t go back. The ability to charge everywhere anytime is just so good. Plus you always have your phone/device with you anyway.
Yes you can register your current teikiken. The way it works is you basically transfer the suica id to your phone and rendering the card useless. I usually charge by credit card straight from my apple watch.
Bonus point you actually get back your 500yen deposit from the card transferred to your mobile suica charge. So you basically gain more. No reason to not use it.
