Taking the Shinkansen from Hamamatsucho station to Kyoto

I’ll be arriving at Haneda on a Tuesday night next month and I am looking to take the Shinkansen from Hamamatsucho station to Kyoto. Will I have any issues trying to buy tickets the next day Wednesday morning as far as the tickets being sold out or luggage space being a problem (I plan to have 1 full sized luggage and 1 small luggage with me)? I was looking to prebook online but I was wondering if it would be better to just buy the ticket in person the day of when I arrive? Some people say the trains will be empty on the weekdays so I will have no issue. Just want to confirm.

Also, where online can I see the Shinkansen schedule from Hamamatsucho station? Would like to see which Shinkansen train is the fastest with the least stops to Kyoto if possible.

  1. There’s no Shinkansen from Hamamatsucho as far as I’m aware.

You’d have to go to Tokyo Station or Shinagawa station first.

Here’s the timetable for Shinkansen on weekdays from Shinagawa towards Kyoto. Not sure where to find it in English, so it’s Japanese.

As for tickets, you’ll probably be fine finding reserved seat tickets on the day, but sometimes it will be full, so you’d have to wait for the next train or so. The day before shouldn’t be any issues at all.

If there isn’t any reserved seats left for the train you want, you can always go with unreserved seat. This allows you to go on any train that day, but no seat is guaranteed. Maybe not optimal with lots of luggage.
