  1. As long as youre getting paid in your idle, then you can just chill. Maybe think of anything you want to do/adjust in your home when you go home or something….. Or any personal. Or in your office.

  2. If you’re working as an EE and they’re not having you do anything next, personally I would spend that time getting up to speed on knowing your products and their no doubt storied history, especially if you’re new — and you’re most likely new, if you still have to wait on management and aren’t independent yet.

There’s never enough documentation, BOMs, reports, schematics, testbench logs, etc. you can go through to really familiarize yourself with your product: what worked? What didn’t? What did they try? What did they change? How has something evolved over time to meet changing needs, or push the power-performance-cost envelope, for example?

As an EE, you should have access to all of this stuff anyway for reference in your day-to-day work. It’s a productive way to invest in yourself while waiting on the next thing from management, while also being fairly laid back, since you can peruse at your own pace and leisure, and don’t have eyes hovering over your shoulders.

  3. I’m using this kind of time to learn new software or improve myself/skills. I believe the time we spent at work should be related to work. So if there is no specific task that you can work on, focus on improving yourself.

  4. Im not from japan, but if you get your money and don’t do anything…. This is easy cash?
