I’m aware that the title sounds like a joke, but it isn’t. It’s a bit of a silly rant, but I want answers!
My boyfriend seems to deeply hate ossan. He’ll use “ossan” has a reason for disliking so many things that it utterly bewilders me and sometimes causes us to fight. Some examples:
* ”I don’t want to go to that area of the city, it’s full of ossan.”
* ”Why are you listening to that singer? He’s an ossan.”
* ”That canned drink is for ossan, I don’t want it.”
* ”Oh you chose that pasta dish? Ossan suki sou.”
* ”Why do you use that word? You sound like an ossan.”
* ”I don’t want to go to this restaurant, it’s full of ossan. Oh you don’t mind? Ossan suki yana”
* ”Let’s wait for the next elevator, there’s an ossan in this one.”
And so on…
Are ossan really that bad?? I know some are dirty perverts, and ossan do often stare at me… but come on, lots of people stare at me haha. If they’re creepy then sure I hate them too… but most seem just like normal dudes.
He doesn’t hold this kind of venom for any other demographic. I feel like so many things we could do are limited by the “ossan” factor, but why?!!! Who cares??? Is it just my boyfriend, or is this ossan hate quite common…?
The thing is, my boyfriend is a bit older than me and I’m pretty sure he’s already an ossan… LOL. A cool one though!
Anyway the latest one made me annoyed and prompted me to write this post because I’m sure I’m not the one who is insane here. I’m selling a branded scarf on Mercari, I took photos and then I included a manufacturer’s photo of the product in store being held by a sales assistant.
My boyfriend said I should delete the store photo because it looks like it’s an ossan’s arm in the photo and people won’t like it. Like dude, WHAT? Hahaha
Anyway I pretended I didn’t understand his point but deleted the photo anyway. I just wonder if this is common or if my boyfriend isn’t right in the head lol
I understand him wanting to protect me from hentai kitanai ossan but… would women really be put off buying a scarf if the photos includes an ossan’s arm???????
Sorry, this post ended up being stupidly long LMAO but please help me out here!

Mental illness
Jealousy, probably.
A bit of a Peter Pan complex maybe? Your boyfriend sounds a bit odd to me.
You know, “ossan” isn’t such a foreign concept that there isn’t a word in English for it.
Probably some midlife crisis. Unfortunately saying “ew gross, old people” will not stop you from becoming one yourself lol.
What does he have against strong zeros?!
Ask him
Has he tried snickers? He might not be himself when he’s hungry
Ossan basically means geezer in English. Sounds like your bf is ageist.
Probably getting bullied at work by some ossans.
And sounds like he wants an extremely feminine anime character girlfriend.
And he’s kind of grooming/bullying you
Doesn’t sound at all like he’s protecting *you* from them, rather that *he’s* got an issue with them.
Projection. Mid-life crisis. Call it what you want.
Just replace it with “boomer” and you’ll have your answer.
He secretly wants to bang them.
yes, ask Reddit for relationship advice. this sub is known for its excellent takes on relationships. Up next: “is it wrong to cheat because I’m horny?”
Is he serious or does he think he’s being funny? Btw what canned drink was for ossan? I haven’t encountered one so far that I thought my grandpa in law might like lol, apart from black coffee cause he likes that.
I don’t know how he said it but hopefully he’s half joking and maybe at the same time very insecure about becoming ossany. It doesnt sound very pleasant of an attitude though. Age is just age.
Dude needs a nap.
Sounds like an expression of his fear of becoming older.
Looks like he’s ahead of the curve, practicing to be one.
Maybe you think it’s “cute” and what not, once he completed his transformation, he’ll be THE ossan.
Did his last girlfriend run off with an ossan?
I wonder if your bf is projecting his own insecurities to ossan. You mentioned about age difference. He is probably subconsciously aware that he will be one of them, sooner or later, which he hates. He seems to try hard to distance himself from them, to detach from that reality.
Could this be coping/self-defense mechanism?
He was a Japanese high school gal in a past life.
