Oh ya and on the drive up or back there’s a little weird shopping or tourist spot with a museum of Kokeshi, Nishida Memorial Museum.
This place has a lot of antique/vintage kokeshi online and more at their warehouse! Based just outside Nagoya. https://chidorivintage.com/
If you have questions or want to schedule a visit, they usually respond to messages quickly! A lot of really great and unique stuff aside from kokeshi as well~
I’ve seen them at flea markets where a bunch of old people bring stuff to sell.
I saw some at Toji temple’s flea market in Kyoto.
The Tohoku area is famous for this craft. Yamagata prefecture in particular has a number of workshops and museums that may be worth checking out!

I’ve seen them around Fukushima area. First hand experience tho, I went to an onsen town, Tsuchiyu Onsen 土湯温泉郷, and this shop had a ton and I bought a few there. You need a car tho.[https://www.yamaneaizuya.com/](https://www.yamaneaizuya.com/)
