Hello friends. I am half Japanese and I am probably on a kindergarten level of Japanese learning. Not sure why my mom didn’t teach me to full capacity. 😅 Anyway while I’ve been out of a job for almost three years I’ve decided I should probably study the language of my heritage and maybe even become a interpreter myself one day. Would I need certificates or have to go to college?

In my company (healthcare sector) you need at least a master in the language you apply for as translator, as well as experience and certification for the specific vocabulary that is needed. Also you need to have worked in the medical field before, as nurse or med. Tech or similar.
Don’t know about other company’s.
It depends on the country you work in and the industry. Some countries require certification to be interpreters for what’s called community interpreting (like interpreting in hospitals and stuff). Some countries have systems for certifying translations, which require the translator to have certain credentials, but other countries have no real certification system.
