[Itinerary] [16 days] [Nov 21 – Dec 7] Tokyo – Kawaguchiko – Hakone – Kyoto – Himeji – Hiroshima – Miyajima – Osaka

**I need advice** on where to stay in Lake Kawaguchi and Hakone. Do I spend the full day around the lake, then take a bus and sleep in Hakone visiting nothing there that first day, and thus having the full free second day to visit around? or is it better to book 2 seperate hotels? and where?

Is it better to do Kawaguchi and back to Tokyo, and then Hakone on the way to Kyoto, or to do Kawaguchi then bus to Hakone?

I will buy the 14 day rail pass, starting in Hakone to Kyoto trip as you can see it’s worth it: [https://imgur.com/CI17fti](https://imgur.com/CI17fti)

edit: Apparently, it might be possible to get a JR pass included ride to Otsuki, then go to Kawaguchi from there for only 1100 yen

  1. If you want to do Kawaguchiko and bus to Hakone on the same day, the problem you can run into is that if you want to stop at a ryokan with kaiseki meal, check it typically stop at 5 or 6 pm, so you have to check that and it might cut your Kawaguchiko day a bit short.

So if you want to do two night in ryokan with kaiseki meal, I would do one night in Kawaguchiko and one in Hakone. But of course that would cut time next morning on you Hakone visit.

But you could also decide to do a first night in Hakone no meal included (could also be a hotel instead of ryokan, as long at they are ok with later check-in) get the whole next day to explore Hakone and finish at a ryokan with meal. In that case, I would likely check for first accommodation around Gora station, so you can do Open air Museum, Owakudani, lake Ashi and finally get ryokan around Hakone-Yumoto. Doing that, you would also be closer to Odawara if the next morning you directly get in the train to go to Kyoto.
