Just went to Costco after a few month hiatus. Is it just me but did they bring the US inflation experience along with the Christmas goods. PS: They didn’t have pumpkin pie yet.
Edit: I get the cause of the price hike. More a n old guy rant because the pizza cost 1980 yen now.

Went there last week after quite some time(more than a year), prices seemed the same to me though, but I don’t have that much experience with Costco to say if they changed much.
I mainly bought food though 😅
? What time did you go? Pumpkin pie is usually sold out by 3 or 4.
And price inflation is not a US only thing unless you live in a bubble.
They had pumpkin pie at Halloween and will probably have it again closer to Thanksgiving. I go to Costco fairly frequently and haven’t noticed any major changes in pricing.
Things seemed a bit more expensive to me.

A lot of what Costco sells (or perhaps what I buy there…) is imported. Combine this with Costco generally trying not to have too much inventory backlog and exchange rate changes will be reflected in their prices quickly. The yen has lost tremendous value this year which is going to push their imported goods prices up substantially.
Considering how reticent the BOJ is about raising rates, 140-150 might be the “new normal” here. Or it could get worse. (I hope not…)
Have you looked at the exchange rate recently? Not only is inflation across the globe worse, the yen is in the toilet and so everything in Costco that is imported will be significantly more expensive.
I think pumpkin pie depends on location + timing. Been able to get them consistently at Makuhari for a month now.
It’s more expensive for sure. Stuff in the in the 1000-2000円 range seemed to be 2-300円 more the last time I was there (within a few weeks). This is likely just reflecting the devalued yen since so much of their stock is coming from abroad.
Pumpkin pie was ¥1600 in October… I bought two last month

Whoa you lucky bastard. I went to costco sapporo and a whole pizza is 2460 yen now! The on whey protein I usually get went from 8200 to around 12000. Pretty much everything across the board was between 40 and 60 percent up. The bulgogi bake was something like 800 yen now.
