Nobody checked my pcr test certificate at Haneda when I returned from USA

So, is the PCR test taken within three days of departure back to Japan no longer required?

  1. Did you upload it to MySOS?

Did you show the airline your negative PCR during check-in?

  2. I forgot if I had to show it when I got in Japan, but I distinctly remember having to show it before I was allowed to board the plane. So maybe they assume that since you were able to get on a plane and arrive that it is obvious you’ve been tested?

  3. Had mine checked before boarding and then at Narita show MySOS and based on that you were send into the queue for test or on to immigration

  4. The airlines hold the first responsibility for ensuring that you meet the entry requirements. The two times I’ve entered Japan since reopening, both times they checked all documents pretty carefully at the check-in counter.

Japan checks your PCR test certificate when you upload it to the MySOS app before flying. If the certificate doesn’t turn blue, you need to show the certificate upon entry.

So I assume your PCR test certificate was checked twice. Once by the airline, and once through the MySOS app.

  5. Many countries sort of depend on the airline to check it for them, although they can always demand to see it.

Always check entry requirements in your airline’s version of Timatic. That is what airline agents will follow, no matter what sources say otherwise, even official ones.
