Sending candy and food to Japan

Ohayo!

I have a rather short, but not so simple question.
“What can I send to Japan?”.

I’m looking to send a friend of mine some candy and food items from Norway. I am not entirely sure what I’ll send just yet, but I’ll imagine it’ll be chocolates and general candy made in Norway, but maybe also some chips.
Where my question becomes a little bit more difficult, however, is when it comes to food stuff. While I’m not entirely sure if I’ll send these things, I’d like to know if I were able to send tinned breakfast foods, such as fish and liver spread that normally goes on bread.
I’m a little bit confused on those kinds of items.
Are there any restrictions regarding similar items that can affect the things I wish to send?

  1. I think if it’s sealed in its original packaging with a label it should be fine, no perishables

  2. >liver spread

The other items should be ok. But don’t send that one. Norway doesn’t have African Swine Fever, but Japanese customs inspection may not know that, and take it.

Don’t send anything meat, meaty or animal stuff. Tinned fish should be ok.

  3. I sent tinned sardines to my boyfriend from Canada no problem. Personally I wouldn’t risk ANY other animal products though

  4. I heard in a couple years Japan will publish a customs website where this kind of information can be found, I know it’s hard at the moment.

  5. Don’t send chocolates in summer (July – Oct.) It will be hot AF here and they are likely to arrive melted.
