PR statement of reason – hand written or typed?

Hey all,

Another PR question here. I was told that it would be more impressive if I wrote my statement of reason by hand rather than typing it and printing it out.

I just want to know if anyone has gone the hand written route? Do you think it makes a difference?

  1. Told by whom? I had an immigration lawyer do my PR application, he prepared all of the documents. I didn’t do any of the paperwork myself.

  2. I don’t recall even doing one. If I did, it was 2-3 sentences, typed, and completely forgettable.

  3. I don’t think it would make any difference if typed or handwritten. What matters is the content. I have a friend who was once rejected because of gap in tax/nenkin payment. We helped her the 2nd time to write the reason, citing her reason and contribution to Japan through work and all. We practically wrote full essay/paper for her, and she got the PR.

But to be honest, if all your docs are lined up and the immigration has no reason to reject you, you’ll get it anyway. I just wrote like 3-4 paragraph of letter stating how I came to Japan and what I expect to do in the future with PR.

  4. I had been in Japan for less than a year, when applying; my Japanese was abysmal. So my wife did everything, including the talking, while I just sat there and smiled encouragingly. It’s been >20 years ago, so things might have changed since then.

  5. I’m curious. Is posting this question on Reddit now formally part of the PR application process itself?

    Mine. Hand written. One sentence.

  6. I typed mine. No problem at all

Honestly, I think it has more to do with whether or not you paid your taxes/pension, and of course if you have a criminal history.

  7. if you are going with the points route it makes no difference whatsoever

you either fit the criteria or you don’t, very clean cut, they are not going to break their own rules because they did not like your typed letter
