Gout and getting allopurinol

Hit 30 and my present was my first gout attack earlier this year.

Couple of questions:
– any recommendations for a kidney specialist who can preferably speak English (not a must)?
– anyone experience with getting allopurinol prescribed?
– can normal clinics prescribe allopurinol or does it have to be a specialist?

Already spoke to a normal doctor but he said we should wait with medicine. Been measuring my uric acid every day for the last month and I am constantly above or around the threshold, which is why I want a better opinion or just get on allo to lower it before doing more damage to my joints.

  1. If you have gout at 30, perhaps You should consider stopping any alcoholic drink for a while.

  2. I’m on allopurinol here in Japan. I had my first ever gout attack back in early January and the doctor (normal local clinic) prescribed it to me after my first visit confirmed it was gout iirc. Started at 100mg but eventually upped it to 200 after a blood test or two.

The current issue I’m having is finding a doctor/clinic that can prescribe more than 2 months worth of allo in one go. It’s getting to be a pain going back so often just for the meds.

  3. I’d just like to say sorry that you’re experiencing the pain of gout. My first attack was at 26, and I wouldn’t wish it on my enemies.

  4. Gout enjoyer here. Had it happen since I was 17 or thereabouts. Never drank a drop of alcohol in my life but other diet stuff reared it. Now I just have a clean diet and its all good! Forget the medication, just tighten up the diet and you’ll be fine.

  6. Tone down the drinking and good food aka meat/fish or other animal proteins. OK just to add a little for flavor.
