Probbly dumb question, but how do I add small hiragana with Android keyboard?

The title says it all! Here’s a picture of my issue

Small hiragana

I’m trying to write jyo, but it comes out as jhi yo 🙁 so I usually have to look over for the word I need on the chart suggestion, but that’s not what I want. I wanna figure out how to place the small hiragana with my own keyboard.

I know it’s dumb and I tried looking over and I couldn’t figure it out lol I’m using Google Keyboard . Thanks in advance!

  1. You need to type how it would be read basically. So for しょ you would type sho on a roman alphabet keyboard. The only weird exception I know of is づ which you type du.

  2. You can use the acutal kana keyboard (I forget it’s proper name) that lets you type out kana and add dakuten and handakuten, and will make some of the characters smaller like, as you say, in しょ. It takes a little while to get used to but it makes typing Japanese on your phone a lot easier in the long run.

  3. You’d put an x before the charcater you are trying to make small.

Type it as Jixyo to get じょ.

  4. I use the Microsoft keyboard on android and it has a button on the bottom left corner which says 小 that makes the character small.

  5. for my android keyboar i use the letter L plus the next letters in romaji,

    for example,

    lyo : ょ

    yo: よ

    hula: ファ

    deli: ディ

  6. If you’re on Gboard for phones, you use the same key you’d use for adding dakuten or handakuten:

    1) Type じよ
    2) While the characters are still highlighted, tap the key in the bottom left that has a ” and a ° on it. It also has the 大 and 小 characters beneath that, for “big” and “small”.
