I’m considering just self-study

I am taking Japanese 1 online and I have a skit presentation. The person I’m working with now is not consistent with checking their email, and I understand they work but it’s kind of messing me up. I’ve been switched to different groups twice because of others not answering their email. I’m considering dropping my class because it’s stressing me how much of a big grade the project is. I have a B, but I feel like I should just retake it some other time. For those who self-study, how do you stay productive, and do you pay for exchange programs?

  1. I consider Anki reviews as my “absolute minimum” for the day, meaning if I have no motivation whatsoever then I will at least push myself to do that and nothing else. The reason I prioritise Anki specifically is because it allows me to retain the knowledge I already have so I don’t make negative progress.

Most of the time, doing Anki is enough to get me in study mode and I can continue to read/watch things for 3-4 hours.

I haven’t paid a single cent for anything except for the Genki books when I started out, but I could have avoided that too if I didn’t have a fixation on physical textbooks as I know where to “procure” digital versions.

  2. Yeah, self study is much better imo. I highly recommend checking out renshuu.org or their app. The free version comes with all the features you will need as a beginner and they have a discord community as well.

  3. Professionally, working with a team can be great.

In school, group work is pure horseshit.

That is all I can tell you about that.
