Can I read vertical japanese with low kanji knowledge?

I have been reading horizontal japanese so far. I want to try vertical japanese now. The problem is I only know about 200 kanjis, which are pretty basic.

I know I should practice and learn more kanji to be able to read it. But I can’t wait till then. My friend has lended me a book, it’s in vertical japanese. So I need some help to read it, and then return the book in time.

So could you please tell me any solutions, for example any apps that could read vertical japanese?

  1. I mean, you should be able to read Japanese written vertically to the same degree that you can read horizontally written Japanese.

    Nothing really changes meaning wise

  2. vertical is just rotated, what gave you the idea that it somehow is written with different characters?
