Mas(ます) vs Massu (ます) Pronounciation

In what context can one pronounce the word ます where す is pronounced fully (like in すし). I vaguely remember reading something about this many years ago but I stopped learning Japanese and now am back at it but can’t seem to find this resource.

  1. Very few people will say the す in ます unless they’re trying to be cute or work in customer service and want to be extra polite

  2. If ます is followed something else, then you pronounce the す like <verb>ますように

Also just to be clear, ます is never pronounced “massu”

  3. I often go with maSU because my short end す sounds like し and people make fun of me far more for the mashi than for the maSU.
