Would you eat this salmon raw?

My wife picked this up at an Asian grocery store. It is titled “best sashimi salmon”

Would any of you use this to make sushi? I’m worried because somehow it is cheaper than regular salmon you would find at the grocery store, and usually sushi grade fish (yes, I know that term doesn’t really mean anything) is more expensive, not less expensive.

I’m worried about getting sick. Do any of you have advice for me?

  1. Since it’s clearly frozen and labelled sashimi, I would assume it is safe if the store is a reputable one.

  2. “Sushi grade” is kind of bs. But the fish does need to be frozen first in order to make sure any harmful parasites are killed before eating. So you’re on the right track. I wouldn’t be worried about eating it.

  3. It’s probably safe to eat but 1.99 an lb is sketch. It’s probably really fishy tasting

  4. No. You would think if it was “best quality” it would tell you what species of salmon it is.

  5. Best to find a fishmonger selling fish caught that day and flash frozen to kill any parasites. The longer it’s sitting out at the store the greater risk of bacterial growth.

  6. I have eaten so much raw fish that I probably shouldn’t have but this is just too weird for me.

  7. I’m suspect of the price… could be my market, but most of the Asian markets I’ve seen sushi salmon in would be more like $3/oz in my area.

  8. Nope. I would want province for raw salmon.

Living in Norway I am very relaxed about local farmed salmon but anything else know where its from and how it was produced.

  9. @1.99/lb, I wouldn’t eat it cooked, grilled, boiled, sous vide, roasted or for $1,000,000
