Down Votes: The Untold Story

Writing this because of the “Genuine Ideas vs Negativity” post above.

This sub is an excellent source of information. Many of us learn a lot here about how to navigate in this strange new land we’ve moved to.

In this challenging environment, it’s such a good thing that that posters will ask for advice and share positive experiences that make us all feel better.

Many positive comments are posted here. Paraphrasing a few recent ones:

\- Any ideas for a gift for my partner?
\- Finally approaching my weight loss goal,I’m so happy!;
\- Yay – Finally got PR!;
\- Japan is such a beautiful country!

And they get down-votes.
Question: Are these down-voting people Karens in real life, or just behind a keyboard?

    Who gives a fuck? and why should they give any? now thats the real question

  2. Is this satire? Why do you need a new post for this rather than simply commenting in the post you referenced?

  3. For many people here, this isn’t a strange new land.

    A lot of posts on here are repetitive. Others, are just inane and I wonder how they even managed to go from their home country to here without being held by the hand. Many other times there’s a relevant megathread going. Like today is a questions thread, perfect for a post such as yours.

    But this is Reddit, so ymmv.

  4. I don’t really see these downvotes people always complain about… the number of votes doesn’t become public on jlife for a few hours anyway? So no one knows if it’s downvoted or not.

    I always see positive comments and posts get upvoted personally…
