    First, the kids aren’t drinking enough and it’s hurting sin tax revenues so let’s do a promotion to get them back into it.

    Now, the EVs are saving the environment but hurting our bottom line.

    Next up, inflation and a historically weak yen aren’t hurting domestic spending enough, let’s raise the consumption tax to 15%.

  2. They’re talking about eliminating the EV discount on the annual car tax and taxing them at the same rate as conventional cars. With all of the major car makers planning on rolling out EVs over the next year they’re probably worried about a drop in car tax revenue. I bought an EV kei over the summer and they’re already taxed at the same rate as conventional keis, which is ¥7300 per year.
