Tokini Andy: Who is he?

I see a lot of positive praise on his grammar videos and course. Thinking of signing up but what are his qualifications? What has he achieved in Japanese that has made an entire community of language learners trust him? Is he the next Tae Kim or something?

  1. I like his channel for when he reviews books, manga, games, and other things, but I always have to take language learning advice with a grain of salt when it’s from someone who lives in Japan and is married to a Japanese citizen. That’s a force multiplier most of us can’t have.

  2. He might have a video that explains his credentials, but honestly, if you watch a video of his that is relevant to your studies, you’ll know if he’s someone whose teaching will help you. He’s not the type of YouTube teacher who sells a methodology to adhere to religiously, so his circumstances are irrelevant. All that matters is his teaching, and it’s on display for free.

  3. I remember hearing that he passes N1 2 years ago, And he’s currently striving to get a perfect score on the test

    I really like his channel

  4. He’s an N1-level speaker who’s married to a native Japanese person (who actively helps him with his materials), and he’s been a resident in Japan for a long time.

More than that, though, a huge chunk of his materials are available free on YouTube, so you can judge the quality yourself without paying anything. He’s not teaching some “ultra-special secret method” or anything; he’s just good at explaining things. He takes commonly used materials and explains them really well, with a native speaker’s input.

  5. I used his videos throughout my journey with Genki and for me, at least, it is a good channel to clarify and take notes as a summary of some points after trying to understand the theory and do the exercises in the workbook.

I don’t know if it works as a sole learning resource.
