Autumn Leaves – Ohara/Hiei

Hi, I’m planning to visit Kyoto next weekend and I’ve never been up to Ohara or Mt. Hiei. I’m thinking of taking the cablecar down to the Shiga side. I was going to do it in two days, but I have an opportunity to go to a festival elsewhere on Sunday. Is this is itinerary do-able in a (very packed) day? Is there anything I can eliminate or is it just way too much? Are certain temples better than others for the leaves? Thanks!

Here’s my itinerary:

9:20am Ruriko-in reservation

bus to Ohara

Sanzen-in

Maybe Jikko-in, Raigo-in, Hosen-in (Are all of these temples worth the entrance fees? I know Sanzen-in is a must and read good things about Hosen-in)

Eizan Cablecar

Enryakuji

Sakamoto Cablecar

Hiyoshi Taisha/Former Chikurin-in Temple

Miidera (closes at 5pm)

5:30 to 8pm illumination at Ishiyamadera
