Using Taxi Apps in Japan as foreigner

Hi, I am traveling to Tokyo and Kyoto but I have a bad leg condition that prevents me from walking too much.

Due to this condition, I will have to travel using e-hailing apps a lot.

I have heard of the [Go app](https://go.mo-t.com/) but I am unsure if I would need a Japanese phone number. I have heard getting a Japanese SIM card is quite the hassle for foreigners.

I have a few questions and would greatly appreciate some help!

1. Do I need a Japanese phone number to use the Go app?
2. Do I need to change my Apple app store region to use the Go app?
3. Do I need a Japanese phone number to use Uber?
4. Do I need to change my Apple app store region to use Uber?

  1. Android user who just returned from a trip. Uber works fine and works with taxi’s and not with “regular clothed” drivers. My brother’s an apple user and had less restrictions on use then i did. I did however have trouble hailing one at night and just ended up cancelling then walking to a station to get back. Should mention it took a few minutes for the accepted driver to come to us, meanwhile a handful of empty taxi’s did pass by (Red status = empty, Green = Occupied)

Bought a sim for the both of us but i had much more trouble activating it then he did. The sim came with an instruction pamphlet. He had apps in japan work that did not work for me so GoApp would probably work, since i recall him mentioning that his phone had no trouble installing japanese apps. The sims were prepurchased online and picked up at the airport. Took him about 3 minutes to get it working
