Having difficulty learning verbs, but nouns, etc. are okay.

For a little context, I’m almost finished with my first semester of Japanese at my University. We’re using Genki I (3rd edition) in the class. We’re currently working our way through lesson 6. Up until now, it’s been okay. I’ve been able to learn all of the nouns and phrases just fine for the vocabulary quizzes. But I’m having a difficult time studying and remembering the verbs. I can recall nouns from every previous lesson, but I have trouble remembering even some of the first verbs we learned.

I can conjugate them just fine as long as I’m given the root verb, I just can’t memorize verbs for the life of me. Like I said, nouns are great — no problem at all. Same with phrases, particles, verb conjugation.

My study routine has been 7 new cards per day on Anki and about every 3rd day I’ll pull out the Genki vocab app and use it.

Any tips or recommendations on what I could change to help? Thanks 🙂

  1. You gave a hint of the answer to your own problem

Use your (hard) verbs on your (easy) nouns

    贈り物を**もらう**

    図書館に**行く**

it also might help with particles
