Grass allergies, anyone?

About a week ago some city employees showed up and mowed down all the grass in the local parks. Ever since then I’ve been suffering horribly with sore, dry, itchy eyes, a blocked up nose, dry nasal passages, constant sneezing and tension headaches. I can’t sleep at all at night, and my work output is suffering as a result.

1. Air purifier? No, I don’t plan on acquiring any more electrical appliances. I can barely afford to run the ones I already have as it is.

2. Meds? No, I’m already taking seven (!) kinds of prescription meds for an unrelated condition. No more pills for me.

3. Stay indoors with the windows closed? Yes, I’m doing that as much as possible but for some reason it’s not helping much. I think the pollen may be sneaking in through another route. Besides, I have to go out daily to stock up on tissues and eye drops, although I usually do so after sunset.

I’m suffering! Any practical advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. You may have an allergy to a specific allergen or pollen-type. Even those who don’t usually get hayfever may suffer cut grass allergy or a specific blooming or fruiting tree near them.

Doormats outside your front door help trap pollen and allergens on your shoes. Even in the genkan they may spread particles throughout your home if you don’t wipe them first.

If you haven’t washed your bedding since they cut the grass, do so.

    Vacuum frequently.

Don’t dry clothes outside until you’re sure the air is relatively pollen-free.

  2. You ruled out 99.9% of the practical advice. Small humidifier might be cheaper than an air purifier. It’s very dry at night now.
