  1. >OSAKA — A 30-year-old man running a “girl’s bar” in Osaka was arrested on suspicion of egging two teen girls on to partake in an organized fight, which resulted in an employee’s injury, police announced Nov. 17.

    >Osaka Prefectural Police’s Tenma Police Station arrested Eiichi Ueno, an Osaka resident who effectively manages the bar located in the city’s Kitashinchi entertainment district. On the night of Aug. 3, on a street in Osaka’s Kita Ward, he allegedly told an employee and former employee of the establishment, where female workers serve drinks, “You should fight each other one-on-one. I’ll prepare a place.” Police allege that at around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 4 he had the teen girls duel at the bar’s affiliated establishment in Kita Ward. The employee suffered injuries, including facial bruises.

    >According to police, the employee and others had summoned the former employee, who quit the bar without notice, and met her on the street. Ueno and the others took a taxi to the affiliated establishment, and the two reportedly punched each other with their bare fists for five minutes.

    >A law implemented in 1889 bans the acts of challenging others to a duel and being present during the fight. Police have not revealed whether Ueno has admitted to or denied the allegations made against him. Meanwhile, they are questioning the girls involved in the fight, and affiliated parties who were at the establishment at the time.
