what’s the deal with Japanese and their obsession with Toy Poodles?

Every time I go outside I see a dog owner with a poodle or some other tiny squeaker.
Even old men in their 80s dress their squeaker in a pink dress when it isn’t even cold outside.

I can’t remember last time I saw a mid to large sized dog.

  1. No room for big doggo… Most fit in those kind of baby carts to be able to get into malls etc

One local lady has TWO St Bernard though… She’s white 🙂

  2. I have a few medium and large dogs in my area of Tokyo, but there’s a lot of houses. Off-hand I can think of a Basset Hound, a Saint Bernard, a couple Bernese, a German Shepherd, an Akita, a couple Golden Retriever, a Labradoodle, and a Leonberger. I used to go to a bar whose owner rescued American Pitbulls and so there were always a few walking around the bar.

But, to answer your question, many apartments only allow small dogs, and you have to carry the dog from the door to your apartment. So your only option in that case is a small dog, and poodles are relatively healthy and easy to care for.

If you’re in Tokyo, check out the dog run at Yoyogi and you’ll see a bunch of large breeds.
