Nescopo

I was sitting in a park in Tokyo with my girlfriend 20 years ago. She was Caucasian and I’m mixed race (Caucasian/Asian)but could easily pass for Latino, Indian , or Arabic and fairly tall 6’3. A group of school kids came up to us and started pointing/laughing saying “nescopo.” I’ve asked my Japanese speaking friends what they meant but they said they didn’t know.

Any ideas ?

  1. I guess the last part was more like “kappuru” (couple) and it was more about what you were doing there and not your race…

  2. This is a bit out there, but if the skin tone of you two are quite different they could be making a portmanteau out of ‘Nescafe’ (or possibly another brand that starts with ‘nes’) and ‘couple’.

  3. The amount of negativity on any japan sub is insane… This is such a normal question – not sure why OP is getting downvoted to hell.

  4. it’s “nice couple” the japanese can’t pronounce english word properly so you really take time to understand them because of the accent and pronoucement.

the kid tried to speak english to you by telling you “Nice Couple” it end up with Nescopo.
