Buying a car: What is yobiken

Someone is helping me buy a car here in Japan, and he said that he’s waiting on the car dealer to see it they’ll do yobiken. For reasons, I don’t wanna ask him what it is, so I’m hoping that someone here will know! I tried looking it up on the internet and on here, and I couldn’t find anything.

  1. Yobiken (予備券) translates as reserve ticket or spare ticket but that doesn’t seem to fit the context of buying a car, unless it means preordering a car.

  2. Could it be 予備検査 (Yobi kensa)? If the car is decommisioned (number plate returned), then a Yobi Kensa (like a mini-shaken, has validity of 3 months) is required before the car can be re-registered.
