How did you find your current job?

I’m doing my 転職活動 and it’s my first time trying to actually find a job by myself. It’s been pretty tough to go for a non-English teaching career so I’m wondering how everyone else found theirs. Did people go through connections, applying directly or one of the 転職エージェント?

  1. I cold emailed asking for an unpaid internship, got one, then I got lucky when a vacant spot opened up. After advocating for it to management, I was allowed to interview and got the job.

Not a teaching or IT job. I genuinely don’t know what I would have done if I hadn’t gotten my current position, I was not having any other luck with job hunting.

  2. I took the night bus to Tokyo, checked into a guest house, updated my location on linked in to say I was in Tokyo and passed out on my new bed.

Within a few hours I was woken up by my phone ringing asking me to come in for an interview.

Did two rounds of interviews the next day, started my new job the day after that.

I was extremely lucky in that the individual who had been doing the job before me disappeared off the face of the earth and my new employer needed someone at the customer site as fast as humanly possible.

  3. Connections. The student I taught for several years introduced me to the job I’m working at now.
