For the mods: **we both live in Japan** and neither of us are Japanese. I am the one posting this instead of her because she does not use reddit. This post does not break any rule that I’m aware of, so please don’t delete it, we really need help and don’t know where to turn.
My girlfriend has been experiencing a lot of lethargy, super low energy, feelings of listlessness, etc. She says she just feels constantly drained and tired, and doesn’t really find any joy in anything lately. I’m thinking she may have SAD but I’m obviously not an expert and that’s a total guess since she was feeling normal up until a few weeks ago. We’re hoping to find someone she can go to, but there are some issues that make it difficult.
She’s here on a dependent visa living with her family (parents both immigrants who work for Japanese companies) and does not have health insurance of any kind, and while she does work part time she obviously doesn’t have a lot of money as it’s only about 10 hours a week at most. Her family are the “depression doesn’t exist” type so they’re totally unwilling to help financially as they believe “it’s all in her head” and they “don’t want to waste the money”. I don’t really know what to either as I’ve never had any kind of depression. I can help her with payment, but it would be very difficult for me as well as I’m just a dispatch worker with a low salary myself. Any resources you know of would be a great help.

It is from 2 year ago but should still be more or less accurate.

Either way, your girlfriend should most likely be on some kind of health insurance (on her parents one or the national one). You should try to get thing sorted about that to avoid future trouble.

I hope she will be well soon.
