Deportation for side job, slander etc?

Asking for a friend…

Is it possible to get deported for doing part time online work abroad (not from Japan or paid in yen)?

Is it possible to get deported for slander of your workplace or revealing company secrets?

Assuming the workplace finds out about all this, has hard proof and reports you

  1. This is me talking about of my ass, but my *ass*umption would be I wouldn’t think you’d get deported, as in, detained until you organized a departure from Japan. You’d probably get treated like any other tax evasion case and then not have your SoR extended.

If your friend doesn’t have permission from immigration to engage in activities outside the scope of their status of residence then yes it’s possible. Your friend may also have issues with the National Tax Agency if they’ve not been paying the appropriate taxes on this income.

Not directly. They could be fired sure. Maybe sued. If the slander is severe enough they could face criminal charges.

I have wondered though what status of residence one would hold while in jail. I suppose immigration would change ones status to some flavour of designated activities.
