I suspect i may have ADHD and am considering seeking diagnosis and treatment for it. Currently I am just studying abroad here but I am also thinking about moving back to Japan for a longer term in the future. However I am concerned getting a diagnosis and potentially taking medication might affect my job prospects, ability to get visas, insurance, ability to get loans, and that sort of thing.
I’ve heard that there’s very little confidentiality in the workplace when it comes to your health, and knowing that employers can see your yearly checkup (can’t remember what exactly its called) information, is it possible to lose a job over something like that?
Are there any sort of situations like this that would make getting a diagnosis not worth it?

Losing a job, no I don’t think so.
Becoming the new source of rumors, maybe but unlikely.
Facing troubles later to get life insurance and home mortgage, definitely.
There used to be a time where people with ADHD couldn’t get a car license, but since 2001, that’s not the case anymore.
As long as you don’t say it out loud you got ADHD to the wrong gossipy people, nobody will actually know. Hell, you can even sign up for disability for extra protection when needed.
Now, indeed, the ability to get a loan, or to get a cheap life insurance (to get a loan) MIGHT BE a bit trickier, but it’s nothing cold hard cash can’t solve.
Anyway, getting treatment for ADHD is 10000x better than “trying to act normal” for the sake of it.
