I’m not really used to hearing other 外人’s Japanese except fluent people like Dogen and ニックさん
But on Hellotalk I am part of a couple of group chats and I see most of the guys there using 私。Why? Like the rest of the 文章 is ため口 but the 第一人称 is 私。
Or sometimes I will see overly formal things like 私は○○ではありません。Like it’s just hellotalk dude not a goddamn job interview
I don’t think I have ever used 私 once in my life.

They’re learning the language and don’t understand the nuances yet. I don’t think the format you said is overly formal.
I think it’s the fact that, at least for English speakers coming from a language with one first person pronoun and no grammatical politeness, they’ll tend to be on the cautious side and just use the “safe option”. And I suspect that even if they are comfortable with casual language, they might have just not gotten out of the habit of using some of those overly formal words/phrases beginners use to avoid offending people.
Its almost like they’re still learning the language 😱😱😱
Why do you have to be such a judgemental dickhead? For a lot of people, they speak languages (English) where the pronoun “I” is used constantly and in a way that’s not seen as polite or impolite, so to them it makes sense.
Stop with this embarrassing superiority complex. And with calling people 外人 it’s so cringe lol.
Because that’s the default you are taught.
