Trying to understand which part of the city makes sense for me.

Hi!

I will be soon moving to Tokyo but have a hard time wrapping my head around this city and its many areas. I have some temporary accommodation in place, but I need to start searching for something more permanent.

My idea was to live somewhere with a lot of entertainment, restaurant, shops etc. within walkable distance. Therefore my first obvious thought was to look somewhere around Shinjuku. I tried googling for previous threads like this and saw some opinions that it might not be the best choice – super busy, sketchy in some parts(?). I would commute to Chuo, and distance-wise it seemed acceptable, though perhaps quite packed during rush hours?

My understanding is that most parts of the city can provide me with some fun, and the commute is usually quite efficient, but I would love to have a lot of “stuff” right under my nose.

I don’t need much space, lived in a tiny 26m2 apartment before and it was fine, so I am not worried about that. With the budget of 150-170k I was hoping to find something cosy in a nice new building, upper floor, hopefully with good sound isolation(heard some bad stories about that).

Any thoughts or recommendations? Am I being realistic?
