Why is renewing a MyNumber card so convoluted???

Why is renewing a MyNumber Card so convoluted?

1. Renew residence card (because the MyNumber Card duration is linked to the residency card)
2. Go to shiyakusho to get a piece of paper with your name and a QR code
3. Do online details and photograph
4. Wait months on end
5. Get a postcard on the mail
6. Go back to the shiyakusho, wait two hours to receive the fricking card.
7. Do it all again next year.

Jesus Christ, can’t a few of these steps be streamlined?!

  1. Or you renew your residence card before it expires and then go to city hall, get your mynumber card stamped, and that’s the end of it.

  2. I think people should be forced to use the my number card in the visa renewal process so they can kill two birds with one stone.

Too bad the government is taking so long to get this program started and Kishida has flip-flopped on the My Number cards replacing paper national health cards because the elderly to which he panders probably complained en masse. Streamlining anything is so difficult here and I understand your frustration as someone renewing their visa annually. The bottom line is that it would help this country organize itself, but a lot of people are afraid of change here and I have suspicions that there are reasons relating to taxation which make the less honest high income earners weary to get such a card.

  3. My number? Surely you mean your number?

Are you trying to renew your my number card, or my your number card?

  4. If you get your new residence card before the mynumber card expired, hurry and renew your mynumber card before its expiry date.

If you expect to get your new residence card after the mynumber card expires (during the 2 month grace period), go to city hall *before* the mynumber card expiry, with the stamped old residence card, and city hall will extend your mynumber card by 2 months. You’ll need to go back again after you get the new residence card.

If you do either of the above, you won’t need to get the mynumber card reissued.

  5. I’ve just been using the original paper one since I got here 5 years ago, not had to do anything so far?
