i’m moving kobe in a month, what should i do on new’s year Eve??

Im moving 6 months to Kobe but i have some free days before my studies start. I would like to have some fun on new years Eve. What should I do, spend the night in Tokyo or in Osaka. Can you recommend me some places where i can see cool fireworks, shows, or places to take a beer, thanks.

  1. For Japanese, New Years is generally a family holiday where you stay at home, watch kohaku and go to the local shrine at midnight.

Your best bet for more Westerner style New Years is probably going to be Tokyo. I’m sure you can find a bar open there where you can drink and watch Kohaku while surrounded by others.

  2. USJ stays open for 26 hours on NYE and does a New Years countdown + fireworks. You can enter the park at 7pm on the 31st and stay until 9pm on the 1st (or something similar), and reentry is allowed. I did it one year it was pretty fun (the lines were still outrageous even at 4am).
